Apply for one (or more!) of these teacher grants to earn some extra funds for all your education aspirations.

Start out the school year with a little bit of extra cash — or hopefully a lot — to spend on new projects or classroom needs that are long overdue. Here are some of the teacher grants that you can apply for this school year, as well as some useful information on how to navigate grant opportunities!

Finding Grants by State:

• Fund for Teachers provides educators the resources they needed to pursue self-designed personal learning experiences. FFT grants are designed to create enhanced learning environments for teachers, their students, and their school communities. It's easy to begin the applications process — just select your state!

Travel Grants/Programs:

• Toyota International Teacher Program is an international professional development opportunity for U.S. secondary school educators. Teachers that are selected for the program will have the opportunity to embark on a 2-3 week study tour to a country to explore environmental issues through hands-on activities.

How to Write a Grant:

• GrantSpace provides self-service tools and resources to help people become more viable grant applicants.

General:

• The NEA Foundation's Grants to Educators award more than $7.1 million to fund 4,5000 grants to public school educators. 

• The Association of American Educators Foundation Classroom Grant awards up to $500 in funding to full-time educators for a variety of projects and materials.

• Toshiba's Grants for Grades K-5 offer a $1,000 Toshiba America Foundation grant to help bring innovative, hands-on projects into classrooms. 

• Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program sends select teachers at the university level on a three to six month program that involves taking courses, leading master classes, visiting schools, collaborating with other fellows, and completing an inquiry project of their own design.

• Air Force Association Educator Grants award up to $250 to projects that significantly influence study learning.

Arts:

• National Art Education Association Awards focus professional attention on quality art education and exemplary art educators and increases public awareness of the importance of quality art education.

• Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores Grants fund projects that make creative use of common teaching aids, approach curriculum for an innovative angle, or tie nontraditional concepts together to highlight commonalities.

• Classics for Kids Foundation's Stringed Instruments Grants aim to bridge school gaps and enhance school music programs. 

Libraries & Literacy:

• The Dollar General Literacy Foundation Grant funds creative classroom projects that are designed to improve the literacy of preschool to 12th-grade students.

• The IRA Regie Routman Teacher Recognition Grant honors outstanding mainstream elementary classroom teachers dedicated to improving the learning of reading and writing.

• Beyond Words is the Dollar General's school library relief that provides grants to public school libraries that have incurred substantial damage or suffered from hardship.

Environmental:

• The Captain Planet Foundation provides grants to schools within the U.S. that have an annual operating budget of less than $3 million.

• The Green Thumb Challenge Grant is designed to support the continued sustainability of an exceptional youth garden program that has demonstrated success and impacted the lives of kids and their community. 

Math & Science:

• The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics awards a variety of grants and scholarships with funding ranging from $1,200 to $24,000 to math teachers, prospective teachers, and other math educators that want to improve the teaching and learning of mathematics.

• National Science Teachers Association's Shell Science Lab Challenge recognizes innovative and exceptional middle and high school programs for their exemplary approaches to science instruction. 

• Engaging Students in Learning Mathematics Grant aims to incorporate middle school classroom materials or lessons that actively engage students in tasks and experiences to deepen and connect their content knowledge. 

• The American Honda Foundation helps meet the needs of American society in the areas of youth and scientific education by awarding grants to nonprofits.

Fun:

• Target's Field Trip Grants help you bring students once-in-a-lifetime learning experiences through field trips they'll never forget.
