While exploring, he meets another little boy. What develops is a friendship between two children on different sides of the fence, and ultimately different sides of the Holocaust. Like The Diary of Anne Frank, Boyne’s novel tells the story from the perspective of a child who isn’t aware of the terror taking place during World War II. This innocent, child-like view is what makes this novel so compelling and intricate.
