Reading allows us to be transported to a whole other world. Between the pages of these books, we meet characters and learn valuable lessons and become immersed in cultures different from our own. Because of the learning potentials, instilling a love of reading early benefits a child's education, wellbeing, social development, and overall mental health. Reading creates a critical foundation for expanding their vocabulary and developing problem-solving skills.
Cardinal Rule Press is an independent publishing company founded in 2015 that publishes a select number of books each year. They work to produce literature that empowers children through the timeless messages of hope, courage, and the Golden Rule.
We got a chance to chat with Cardinal Rule Press about how they are creating literature that is making a lasting impact on children of all ages.

Tell us a little about who Cardinal Rule Press is and what you do.
Cardinal Rule Press helps the next generation of readers fall in love with books that make a difference. We work diligently to release children’s literature that represents today’s diversity while remaining dedicated to messages that make a difference.
What are some of your bestsellers and why do these books resonate with readers?
How have you seen your customers using your books?
Often times we have students write letters to the author which we all love to read! We have parents tag us on social media and emails from teachers and families are fun as well. We once had a mother tell us her daughter with special needs looked forward to her daily walk to their neighborhood Little Free Library and found a message from one of our authors in one of the books. It brought a huge smile to her daughter and made us happy to connect with our readers!
What is the Cardinal Rule Press mission?
Through commitment to families and children, we lead the way in providing messages that empower schools, families and communities by providing inspirational children’s books, programs and events around those books.
What has been the key in marketing a bestselling book?
We approach marketing in out of the box ways. We offer free resources to our readers and community. From author panels and live readings to free reader's guides, we work to make the values in our books come alive for classrooms and families!
What excites you about the future of publishing?
We love the idea that we are starting to see positive changes in children's literature. The shelves are filled with more diverse books that represent today's child!
What is something interesting you have learned, behind the scenes on creating a book?
Illustrators are amazing and work in their individual ways! We see some of our illustrators work with simple tools like pencil and paper then more advanced uses like textures in a digital program. We love discovering how different each approach is to our final products.
What are your hopes for the future?
We want to take the next few years to expand our catalog and continue to strengthen our backlist. In the future, I would love to personally own a Book Truck and travel around selling books to small communities with our children helping to drive and work with us!

Publishers are working diligently to get books into the hands of readers but at the same time, we want to give back, partner with local organizations and be in touch with our readers!
