Ender’s Game Gears Up for the Big Screen!
Originally published in 1985, Orson Scott Card’s classic science fiction novel finally hits the big screen on November 1st, 2013. The novel tells the story of child-genius Ender Wiggin and his experiences in Battle School, a space station orbiting Earth. Ender, along with other exceptional children, is enrolled in Battle School to learn tactics and strategy so that he can help protect Earth from an imminent alien invasion.
The movie stars Asa Butterfield as Ender and Harrison Ford as Colonel Graff, the commander who recruits and trains Ender. The initial trailer has already excited fans with glimpses of the bugger army, combat scenes in the zero-gravity Battle Room and a talented cast of supporting actors, including Ben Kingsley, Viola Davis and Hailee Steinfeld. Although Orson Scott Card has reportedly drafted several scripts over the years, he was not involved in producing the version that was accepted by Summit Entertainment. He does, however, make a voice cameo somewhere in the film.
Despite some of the grittier details and violence in Ender’s Game, the novel has long been a popular staple for curriculum and literacy projects. Even though he’s a genius who has been singled out for military greatness, Ender is still an engaging character. Most of the book is told from his perspective as he struggles to survive the dangers of Battle School and then Command School. Like The Hunger Games’ Katniss Everdeen, Ender is a remarkable and intelligent hero forced to make ruthless and terrible decisions because of his circumstances. Ender’s Game is filled with moral gray areas that challenge the reader’s opinion as key plot points are slowly revealed.
In anticipation for the upcoming film, Ender’s Game has been updated with a movie-tie-in cover featuring Asa Butterfield in his Battle School gear surveying Earth through a portal. The movie releases just three weeks before the dystopian thriller Catching Fire, making November an exciting month for books turned into films. The BookPal Team can’t wait to check out both movies this fall!
You can order Ender’s Game in bulk on Book-Pal.com. Don’t forget to take a look at the other editions. Ender’s Game is also available in bulk as a mass-market paperback, a movie tie-in version, as well as hardcover. Library bound editions are available upon request.
