The Law: A Dresden Files Novella (Dresden Files)
by Jim Butcher
About the book
The Law
A different kind of battle awaits Chicago’s wisecracking wizard PI in this quick-witted novella from the #1 New York Times–bestselling Dresden Files.
Harry Dresden is a man adrift after the cataclysmic Battle of Chicago. He’s lost more than most and is haunted by the memories. But he doesn’t have time to wallow in pain, not while the city’s still suffering. There’s work to be done.
Enter Maya: a tutor who’s devoted herself to helping struggling children—until a vile presence from her previous life returns to threaten everything she’s built. Unfortunately, he’s not Harry’s normal class of foe . . .
He isn’t magical, powerful, or even clever. He’s just a lowlife, gutter-brained pimp out to pocket a stolen payday, wielding the loopholes of the legal system instead of a staff. So Harry will have to take him on in the real world, where mortal, human laws hold sway and those pulling the strings are untouchable—and where he might not be able to protect his client after all.
Things were so much easier when he could solve all his problems by making things go boom.
The Law is set after the events of Battle Ground.
