December 5th, 1945.  WWII is over and all the soldiers are hoping to return home quickly. Five TBM Avenger airplanes take off from the Ft. Lauderdale airbase for a very simple training mission on the ocean, but after a series of difficulties and some careless mistakes, they disappear without a trace.
 
A few hours later, a rescue plane which left in search of the five missing planes, also disappears. After some harrowing days the entire crew of Flight 19 are considered and pronounced dead.
