Her story began in 1998, when she married an American that she had met online. When María José began unraveling all the lies around her seemingly peaceful life, they already had a daughter and it was too late. From that moment on, Peter, her husband, would turn into a nightmare. Little by little, María José uncovered the truth about the man she had fallen in love with: she found out he had a criminal record for possession, had used several fake IDs, had been poisoning her with pesticides and drugs during their marriage, as he had done with three of his former partners, though he always denied this. The Spanish woman was arrested in the United States for taking her daughter out of the country unauthorized and was condemned to fourteen years in prison.
 
This updated edition tells of her hellish time in prison, her fight against the American courts, and her long-awaited return to Spain in 2017.
