Overview

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

This book is a roadmap, a guide to orient oneself during a catastrophe. That’s right: we are living in the middle of a climate catastrophe (or, rather, we have been thrust into one).

The search for possible solutions, Pablo Montaño tells us, starts with understanding the magnitude of the problem: Global warming has altered Earth’s natural cycles, causing droughts, mega hurricanes, fires and sea level rise. The culprit is easy to identify: capitalism, an economic model based on extraction, consumption and inequality. The beneficiaries of this system have found clever ways to absolve themselves of responsibility, spinning false narratives about society’s dependence on fossil fuels, the severity of the crisis, and its supposed inevitability.

Given the situation, it's normal to feel anxious or angry, but there is also room for hope. Hope founded in resilience, indigenous wisdom, science and, above all, collective action. It avoids casting blame but has grounds to support it beyond naive optimism. This hope is fundamental to imagining a world we would want to live in, one that prioritizes people over the accumulation of wealth, and it is at the center of this book.
