Overview

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

For what unspeakable reason has the true homeland history been hidden from Mexicans for the past 170 years?

Mutilated Mexico is a cry of denunciation, of rage, of helplessness. Why have we Mexicans spoken so sparingly of the 1846 war against the United States? Why have we refused to evaluate the scope of the catastrophic defeat that resulted, among other ills, in the loss of half of the national territory? Why don't we dare to see the wormy wound that still oozes today?

With his well-known vertiginous prose --a slide that takes us down to the very depths of Mexico--, Francisco Martín Moreno reveals to us how the high leaders of the church, distinguished generals, presidents of the Republic, outstanding Creoles, aristocrats, businessmen, journalists, governors, deputies and senators have conspired against their own country.

The lyrics of the national anthem should be: Mexicans, save yourself if you can...? What did we learn from the war and the traumatic experience? Today, more than 170 years later, aren't we Mexicans more united, more educated, more prepared and have diminished the distance that separates us from the United States? Apparently, no one notices that those who do not know their history are condemned to repeat it, with all its dire consequences. Without a doubt, the vested interests were of such magnitude that it was more convenient to hide the reality than to shed light on our past in order to unmask, once and for all, the true enemies of Mexico. Mutilated Mexico is a political novel that hurls at us the explanations that they never dared to give us.
