Overview

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

Based on extensive field research, Federico Mastrogiovanni maps the landscape of forced disappearance in Mexico.

Tracing the genealogy of this crime, Federico Mastrogiovanni goes back to the 1970s, when the Mexican Army disappeared social activist Rosendo Radilla during the so-called “Dirty War.” The historical line extends to the present day with the case of Alan Cerón, a young man disappeared in Cuernavaca; that of Melchor Flores, known as the “Galactic Cowboy”; and that of Nepomuceno Moreno, who, for searching for his missing son, was first threatened by security forces and later murdered.

In this updated edition of Neither Alive nor Dead, the case of the 43 Ayotzinapa students is examined within the broader context of widespread forced disappearance and within the framework of the State’s functional strategy of terror for territorial control—one that favors the interests of transnational oil and mining corporations.
