Vatican City, 1956. Pope Pius XII commissions Bishop Montini and one Pellegrino Ernetti, a young Benedictine monk, exorcist, and physicist, to look into the paperwork of Ettore Majorana, also a physicist, found in his cell, at the Calabrian monastery where he lived since his disappearance in 1938. From the Sicilian scientist’s notes, Pellegrino undertakes the construction of the chronovisor, an artefact to visualize moments from the past. The Pope has placed all his hopes in this secret project to prove the veracity of the scriptures and restore the faith of the people in the Church.
 
Meanwhile, in Brazil, a powerful bishop who has The support of the Soviet Secret Service is determined to create a schism in the Church and become “the Pope of the poor.”
