  1. Tell us the destination

Titles, copies, the city and country, and whether it's an office, a venue or a home. Plus your date.

  2. We check the edition

Some editions can't be sold in some countries. We check territory rights for every title before we quote.

  3. Freight, quoted

Shipping options to your destination, with insurance if you want it, in one all-in quote.

  4. Pay, then ship

International orders are paid up front by ACH or wire (bank transfer). Tracking follows once it ships.

Duties and taxes, plainly

Who pays at the border is decided before you pay us.

International shipments go one of two ways. Which one applies depends on the destination country and the shipping option, and your quote says which.

DDP

Delivered Duty Paid

Import duties and taxes are settled before delivery, so the recipient has nothing to pay at the door.

Best for gifts and recipients you don't want to bill
DDU

Delivered Duty Unpaid

Any import duties and taxes are paid by the recipient to the carrier when the books arrive.

Common for organizations that handle their own imports

Rights vary by edition

The right book, in the edition that can travel.

Publishers sell territory by territory. A US edition may not be allowed into some countries, while another edition of the same book is. That's why we check before we quote, not after you've paid.

  • We check territory rights for every title before we quote. International orders are subject to worldwide rights and the publishers' approvals.
  • If an edition can't go, we tell you up front, so you can choose another edition or title.
  • Pre-orders and new releases can carry their own territory rules. We check those too.

Timing across borders

Transit time depends on the country and the shipping option, so plan with more room than a US order.

Which countries do you ship to?

Since 2023 we've shipped to 46 countries, most often Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia. Tell us any destination and we'll quote freight to it.

Who pays import duties and taxes?

It depends on the destination and the shipping option. With delivered duty paid (DDP), duties and taxes are settled before delivery; with delivered duty unpaid (DDU), the recipient pays the carrier on arrival. We can usually ship duties-paid to the 42 countries listed on this page, and your quote confirms which applies. Elsewhere, taxes and import fees may be due on delivery. Prices at bookpal.com checkout don't include GST, VAT, duties or tariffs; for duty-paid delivery, ask for a quote.

How do we pay for an international order?

International orders are paid up front by ACH or wire (bank transfer). PayPal works too.

Why can't some books ship to my country?

Publishers sell rights territory by territory, so some editions can't be sold in some countries. We check territory rights for every title before we quote, and tell you if an edition can't go.

How long does international shipping take?

Transit time depends on the country and the shipping option, and duty-paid and duty-unpaid services don't guarantee a delivery date. Put your need-by date on the quote request and allow more time than the 10 business days we ask for within the US.

Is there a minimum for international orders?

International shipping starts at 25 copies. Every international order is quoted, so you see the books, freight and any insurance before you pay.

Can you send one book to each person in another country?

Yes, ask us. Send a spreadsheet with each recipient's full address and country, and we'll quote the options for each destination. See shipping to many addresses.
