About the book
Finding Sundance
A thrilling biographical adventure that weaves the story of Robert Redford’s life with a stunning evocation of the western landscape that made him who he was.
As a young man, Robert Redford took a wrong turn in the Utah mountains and accidentally discovered the land that would change his life. Decades later, nature writer David Gessner received a phone call from the Hollywood icon that would launch his own quest to understand Redford as a man, a conservation pioneer, and an enduring symbol of the ever-changing American West.
Part biography, part nature writing, part memoir on the move, Gessner tells the story of Redford’s life and work with his characteristic humor, honesty and insight. From Redford’s initial experience of Mount Timpanogos to the lasting legacy of the Sundance Film Festival, Gessner invites readers into a new understanding of Robert Redford and his legacy—demonstrating that the secret to understanding the man may be in the land.
