Glimmerings: Selected Photographs: 1998–2027 [9798890181664]

Rebecca Norris Webb’s Glimmerings comprises a selection of nearly three decades of the poet and photographer’s color images that, taken together, map her unique and lyrical way of seeing. As with all of Norris Webb’s photographs, this retrospective look at her practice foregrounds the question: how does a poet see the world—including her own inner landscape—when she holds a camera in her hands?

As Norris Webb notes, “I’ve long considered poetry and photography sister arts. Both share a preoccupation with light and loss, time and memory, the natural world and its weathers, the fleeting moment and the resonant image. Both poetry and photography are better at suggesting than explaining, which is their limitation—as well as their strength.”

The book’s more than sixty-five photographs are selected from her ten books, including My Dakota (Radius, 2012), Night Calls (Radius, 2020), and her hybrid poetry book, A Difficulty Is a Light (2024), as well as unpublished images. Her work touches on landscape and memory, environmental and personal loss, reflections and reverie, stillness and flight, and the poetics of color and light. Accompanying the photographs are several short pieces by poets and other artists responding to a lyric photograph that resonated with them.
