About the book
Make It Stop
The American debut collection from an award-winning, modern feminist voice, for fans of Kate Baer and Lyndsay Rush... and anyone else who likes poetry that’s entertaining and sincere.
Make It Stop is a sharp and morbidly funny poetry collection that confronts the unbearable and then finds a way to live with it. Strimas’s poems are powered by invasive thoughts about parenting, gender relations, time running out, and the legacies we leave for our children. Reacting to the urgencies of our time—environmental collapse, violence, cultural fatigue, and the seemingly inevitable worsening of our politics—these poems move between the world’s external chaos and the intimate terrain of inner life.
Accessible, unflinching, and brutally honest, Strimas’s work creates small, powerful worlds where heartbreak and absurdity exist side by side, and where meaning persists despite it all.
