Casa Moderna: Latin American Living

Since the modernism pioneered by Oscar Niemeyer in Brazil, Latin America has become one of the world’s most exciting locations for contemporary architecture. The wide architectural range, set amid varied climates, social conditions, and environments, has brought international attention to a continent that’s making a name for itself as a center for innovation and experimentation.

This overview showcases the most accomplished and rarely seen contemporary houses, by established names such as Isay Weinfeld, Mathias Klotz, and Marcio Kogan, and rising talents like Pezo von Ellrichshausen and Giancarlo Mazzanti. From Chile’s dramatic coastline to the Amazon rainforest, thirty-eight highly individual houses provide sources of inspiration for architects and interior designers everywhere, and also give insights into Latin America’s unique landscapes and diverse lifestyles.

Written for both designers and home-owners, Casa Moderna features an appendix of architectural plans for each of the featured houses. Presenting an in-depth exploration of the technique and culture behind these stunning homes, this book reveals how these remarkable buildings have come to transcend their time and place.
