About the book
Flora
Crossley inspires us to appreciate flowers anytime by showing us creative ways to integrate them into our daily lives at any time of the year. For each season Crossley includes a variety of arrangements, small and large—from a bud vase with a few blooms on a bedside table, to small colorful bouquets dotting a tabletop setting, to an abundant arrangement of flowers and foliage cascading over a mantel—along with tips, advice, and stories of the meaning and lore behind her favorite flowers. She also shares lists of her favorite flowers for each month, including the best varieties, as well as her most beloved floral combinations.
In spring it’s tulips in all colors and stripes, alone or in arrangements of bluebells and foxgloves along with the transporting scents of camellias or lilacs. Summer brings bouquets of peonies, lupine, and sweet peas to name a few; and the abundant foliage of nasturtiums. Autumn is a colorful cornucopia of bright dahlias, swaying cosmos, and organic sculptures of dried grasses, hops, and cardoons. In winter the deliciously scented foliage of pine, larch, and spruce is perfect for garlands on mantels and doorways, and flowering bulbs like paperwhites and crocuses line the windowsills.
With beautiful photography and charming hand-drawn floral illustrations throughout, as well as tips and tricks for sourcing charming containers, selecting and trimming flowers, and caring for arrangements, this book is practical as well as inspiring, an irresistible treat for flower lovers, designers, and anyone looking to bring the beauty of flowers into their home.
