Rayos / Rays

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

Miqui Otero’s acclaimed novel, considered the greatest contemporary novel about Barcelona, with a new prologue by the author.

At twenty-four, Fidel Centella is leaving his family home to share a flat with three of his friends, nicknamed the Rays. It is perhaps the first straightforward step towards adulthood, though this story is centered in the disorientation of youth, as well as everything that happens when nothing seems to happen, like tiny adventures in a chaotic home, urban corruption, emotional dilemmas, and even family conflicts.

Set in a vibrant contemporary Barcelona (post-Olympics and pre-crisis)—reason why it was dubbed the new great novel about this city—Rays invites reflection on the difficulty of becoming oneself, the struggles with creation, and the search for solid references in a fleeing culture where everything happens way too fast.
