About the book
After
A tender and powerful dystopian tale of family, hope, and survival asks where danger truly lies: in our technological creations, or those who create them?
In a thrilling and mind-bending feat of science fiction, a best-selling and multi-award-winning author tackles themes of loyalty, friendship, and family while mining the question of what, in an increasingly digitized world, defines humanity. Jen and her father live in the aftermath of a technological collapse that brought about the end of the world as they knew it. A terrible fault in a central information hive took out not only the world’s tech, but also the millions of humans who were connected to it. Those left behind are searching for one another, and for a new way of life. But Jen’s father isn’t related to her by blood—he’s a human-appearing AI, an anomaly that survived, and a secret that must be kept even from those Jen longs to trust. His kind brought about the end of the world, but could he also be the key to a new future?
