Four Paths in God: The Christian Way in Yogas
by Mary Margaret Funk
About the book
Four Paths in God
Summarizes Christian contemplative experience into four yogic practices.
In Hindu tradition, Pantajali’s Yoga Sutras are a teaching handed on to disciples by gurus. In the Christian tradition, we have scriptures sourcing the wisdom reported by those who knew the Jesus of Galilee, but we lack a manual for training his disciples. This book by Sister Meg Funk is a sturdy introduction into the Christian yogic practices of doing (Karma), of loving (Bhakti), or Truth (Raja), or Being (Jana). She studied under a guru both in India and in Indiana for five years and then for 30 years she retrieved, reclaimed, and reappropriated from the Christian tradition the similar paths of doing, loving, truth, and being. Sister Meg was trained as a scholar at Catholic University of America and formed as a Benedictine nun since 1961, but it wasn’t until she was director of Monastic of Interreligious Dialogue that she received an immersion into becoming a contemplative practitioner alongside monastics of Hindu, Buddhist, and Sufi traditions. This book is for those who are Christian Practitioners who are guiding others into the Christian contemplative way of life.
