About the book
Godly Sinners
How can a legendary sinner be a man after God’s own heart?
From award-winning author Dr. Bryan Lorritts
We live in an either-or culture. You’re righteous or unrighteous; godly or a sinner. This is how most teachings on godliness and holiness are framed.
Yet, the Bible is filled with stories of godly sinners. King David, the center of attention in Godly Sinners, committed adultery and murder—monumental sins. But he’s known as a man after God’s own heart. He’s a godly sinner. How can this be? And is this, at some level, our own stories? This book examines and answers those questions.
If you’ve ever felt discouraged over your sin and not known how to reconcile this to godliness, you’re not alone. Many messages leave us discouraged, wondering . . .
How can I be godly when I caused the demise of my marriage?
I drank too much the other night. I must not love God.
I gave into sexual temptation, so godliness is off the table, right?
The way that we know we are godly is not that we don’t sin (that person doesn’t exist) but is evidenced in how we respond to our sin. Focusing on Psalm 32 where David reflects on his sin, we discover key lessons on:
- Godliness—what is it?
- The idolatry of godliness
- Our personal, compassionate, covenant keeping, slow to anger God
- How God wants us to respond to sin
- How our losses can become lessons
Do you want to be known as a person after God’s own heart? Godly Sinners offers hope and encouragement for flawed people, you and me.
