Aimez-vous Brahms?: A Novel [9780063464186]

Overview

Back in print in a gorgeous new translation, a sexy and sophisticated Paris romance from the author of Bonjour Tristesse about a woman lonely in love and in love with loneliness, who is courted by two very different men.

Thirty-nine-year-old Paule is an accomplished and intelligent interior designer in love with a philandering playboy. While she can't ignore Roger's infidelities, flakiness, and seeming disinterest in marriage, she also can't help but feel alone when he's not around.

Then, one day, Paule meets Simon, a man fifteen years younger. He invites her to a Brahms concert, and the two hit it off. Paule begins to wonder if absence really does make the heart grow fonder, or just complacent. She decides to let herself be loved.

Simon is Roger’s opposite: well-mannered, affectionate, and attentive. But while Simon has fallen hard and fast for Paule, she remains cautious and unsure about her own feelings. Paule wants Simon, but she also wants Roger. Or perhaps, even more curiously, she wants the solitude Roger’s love ensures.

One of Francoise Sagan's most beloved novels, Aimez-vous Brahams? is a love triangle set in the city of love, with all the perceptiveness and pathos that made Bonjour Tristesse an enduring classic. In her wonderful new translation, Sophie Lewis artfully captures Sagan's elegant wordplay and biting banter.
