Sie basiert auf einer eingehenden Betrachtung der Koppelmechanismen und auf der vom Verfasser entwickelten "Stromanalyse". Damit kann die Entwicklung elektronischer Produkte preiswerter, deutlich schneller und mit wesentlich besseren EMV-Eigenschaften realisiert werden. Insbesondere für die Gestaltung der Masse wird eine durchgehende neue Methodik entwickelt, die sich schon anwenden lässt, wenn Schaltungseinzelheiten noch gar nicht vorliegen. Dies macht eine EMV-Planung überhaupt erst möglich. Die Methodik ersetzt das rezeptartige "Anwenden von EMV-Maßnahmen" durch ein Verständnis der sehr komplexen Zusammenhänge der parasitären Eigenschaften elektronischer Schaltungen. Aus EMV-Sicht ungünstige Entscheidungen werden von Anfang an vermieden.
Die in den vorhergehenden Auflagen dargestellte Methodik der EMV-Planung wurde weiterentwickelt und einige Verbesserungen und Ergänzungen vorgenommen. Insbesondere wurden die Fallbeispiele zur Leistungselektronik überarbeitet und ergänzt.
