Mixed Doubles: A Novel [9780593984772]

Overview

Two professional tennis players pair up to play mixed doubles at Wimbledon, where a win could extend far beyond the court . . . unless their simmering attraction derails their chance of victory.

Sadie Flores may not be a household name, but playing doubles professionally while coaching at Oakcrest, her childhood tennis academy in Toronto, has allowed her to bask in her favorite part of the sport: partnership and community. As she approaches retirement as a pro, she’s excited to devote more time to reviving Oakcrest—until the owners announce their plan to sell the land. If Sadie can drum up significant publicity for the club, it might stand a chance at survival. Problem is, she doesn’t exactly have star power.

Enter Nicolas Andersson, elusive media darling—and the boy Sadie nursed a devastating crush on when they attended Oakcrest together. Nico’s trained his whole life to become the world’s best singles player, and after a season-ending injury last year, he’s ready for a comeback. So when Sadie floats the idea of playing mixed doubles together at Wimbledon this summer, she assumes he’ll laugh her off the court. Imagine her shock when he accepts instead.

As they spend countless hours in sweaty practice sessions, Sadie must work overtime to crush her reawakened crush. After all, they’re polar opposites—she wants love and stability, while he’s allergic to commitment. So what if he’s opening up to her like he’s never done with anyone else? And so what if his gaze always seems to linger a second too long?

With the world watching and their professional dreams on the service line, they’ll have to make sure their hearts don’t end up there too.
