Photographer Leonie Freeman has spent three years documenting 40 of them, exploring how folklore can offer connection, resistance and wonder in today’s fractious world. Rooted in both the urban and the rural, these striking portraits capture a generation reshaping old stories for the present. Images from the project have won a Portrait of Britain Award and received recognition from the Taylor Wessing Award and Martin Parr Foundation.
